According to the numbering in my files, we’ve hit another milestone. This is Catbeard number THREE HUNDRED. At least, it’s the three hundredth regular page update. I know we hit that number some time ago if you count the extra stories in the collected volumes that aren’t on the site.
This is kind of a big deal for me. I love making comics and telling stories, but I’ve never had characters of my own that have spurred me to as much work as Catbeard. I still have further to go in his story! And what’s more, though some days (as I’m sure I’ve said before,) I feel like I’m going to go insane if I have to draw one more deck board or piece of rigging, I want to keep doing Catbeard. This guy is great. He’s a man on a mission, and he’s surrounded by loyal people who support him on that mission. He’s also got a cat who’s near and dear to his heart – more literally than most people who can say the same.
In that way, I think Catbeard’s story is my own. I have loads of friends and family who’ve supported me along the way, and readers like you. And I’ve always had cats that were near and dear, though none of them were ever magically grafted to my face!
I’ll keep telling you my story as long as there is story to tell, and I thank you for being here to experience it.
Matt
